Red Power United runs a series of Direct Action training workshops
*We are always looking for people experienced in direct action or civil
disobedience to participate.
geared towards Native and Non-Native activists.
Our Direct Action trainers' will equip you with the skills you need to
take direct action in your community and to help other
activists prepare for effective action.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND THESE WORKSHOPS?
Experienced and less-experienced facilitators, community leaders,
students, youth coordinators, youth groups and others activists who
want to use more experiential tools through traditional training.
WORKSHOPS WILL INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:
Traditional aspects and responsibilities of Direct Action from a Native
perspective.
How does our spiritual practice and teachings play a part in our
responsibility to the world around us?
Our workshops will teach practical skills, such as body language and
voice control.
Staying grounded in the midst of turbulence.
How to make quick group decisions on actions.
How to deal with confrontational action / situations & stay safe.
The physical and psychological challenges of nonviolent action
through role-playing.
How to deal with those in the group who want an easy compromise.
Effective and ineffective behaviors during a nonviolent action.
How to use your bodies (& some simple equipment) to prolong the
protest.
Understanding your legal rights.
The role of street medics.
And much more...
Our goal is to increase the commitment level of activists by developing
they’re understanding of and confidence in nonviolent methods.
We want to train people to have strategic minds, not just strategic
plans.
The workshops will have an emphasis on learning by doing, so
come
ready to participate and share your skills.
*We will be screening and looking to train only those that we feel will
be committed to training.
